Everyone has potential

Simply Music is a method that knows no boundaries when it comes to who is capable of learning piano. As the parent of a son with Down syndrome, I am thrilled to offer an avenue to musical expression to those with special circumstances.  I focus on abilities and potential, adapting to the individual where necessary to find that inner musical voice.

I have been privileged to work with individuals who have autism, Down syndrome, chromosomal differences, cerebral palsy, hand deformities, fine motor challenges, learning disabilities, and others. I've also taught several piano classes to adults with developmental disabilities through the Ollie Webb Center's Art of Imagination program.

My approach is to first get to know my student and establish a relationship of trust. We get to the piano as soon as the student is ready to try. Through the process of becoming comfortable with one another, asking questions of the student  and caregiver, and 'just trying stuff' when something doesn't work, I believe everyone can find enjoyment and fulfillment in their own way at the piano.

It is designed specifically for children with special needs  and includes customized training, support and guidance materials  for occupational therapists, music therapists or music educators, as well as parents/guardians or care-providers. No extensive background or training in special needs education is necessary.
